Berlin List
[Prefacing that I was in Berlin working remote and visiting a friend who was living there, so we didn't spend too much time on night life and tourism as I wanted to. This is a short list of everything we did.]
Food
- Night Kitchen - Favorite restaurant in the city - personalized (& unlimited) Mediterranean sharing plates for a fixed price.
- Otto - Chef worked with Rene Redzepi at Noma in an intimate & brutalist space.
- mogg - Holy shit the pastrami here are so good...
- Wen Cheng - Chinese noodles... better than Xi'An Famous Foods in NY if you're familiar.
- Kotti Dang - IMO best Vietnamese food in Berlin (better than Monsieur Vuong).
- Chaomin - Rice porridge / congee restaurant (great for da winter).
- Factory Girl - Popular brunch place.
- Tak Tak - Polish deli & really good pierogis.
- Shiso Burger - Fusion burgers.
- Lebensmittel in Mitte - Homestyle restaurant for German food.
- Huadou - Asian (soy?) inspired desserts.
- Lia Ppang - Korean bakery.
Arts & Culture
- Gropius Bau - Contemporary & modern exhibition space.
- SAVVY Contemporary - Insane private collection of modern art (they have some really weird stuff).
- KW Institute of Contemporary Art - They were under installation when I went :( But it was really really high on my wishlist.
- Dittrich & Schlechtriem - Didn't get to go but met the gallery at The Armory Show in NY earlier this year
- Kino Babylon - Cinema from the 1920s in central Berlin.
- Berlin Philharmoniker - Every Wednesday from 1pm between Sept - June, free lunch concerts that last 40-50 minutes!
Shopping
- VooStore - Probably my favorite fashion concept store in the world.
- do you read me? - Beautiful bookstore.
- Rosa Wolf - Beautiful magazine store.
- Markthalle Neun - Indoor market w/ food, ice cream, produce (similar to Essex Market in NY).
- Kim's - Vintage shopping.
- Sing Blackbird - Vintage shopping.
- Juno Juno Shop - Vintage shopping.
- Neuzwei - Curated vintage + independent brands.
Places
- Mauerpark - Public park near the Berlin Wall. Transforms into a massive flea market with food on Sundays (actually massive).
Night Life
- Advised that you go look for top events on Resident Advisor (https://ra.co/) if you're into techno.
- Berghain - Always worth trying for. Dress appropriately or you will get bounced!
- KitKat - Usually where a lot of people try next after getting bounced ;)
- Pornceptual - Art and music collective & also an event series. Never been to their events but follow the magazine and love what they're doing. It's on my list!
